Which three current and former Texas football players actually improved their games the most under fourth-year head coach Tom Herman?

Most discussions looming around fourth-year Texas football head coach Tom Herman and this program right now fall under a negative light. Texas doesn’t have much reason for positive reflection for what happened on the gridiron over the course of the last two weeks. They hold a two-game losing streak heading into their Oct. 24 home contest against head coach Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears.

One of the biggest problems during Herman’s tenure with the Longhorns thus far seems to be player development, or lack thereof. Texas consistently hauls in top ranked recruiting classes in the Big 12, and some of the best in the entire country. But that has yet to turn into a whole lot of elevated success in the win column for Herman and Co.

The 2020 campaign was supposed to be where the Longhorns could really take their contender status to the next level. Texas has their most talented and experienced team since Herman first took over on the Forty Acres prior to the start of the 2017 season. But all that amounted to for the Longhorns thus far is a record of 2-2 (1-2 Big 12).

Yet, the results are not all bad under Herman’s direction. Things did at least pick up a bit under Herman compared to that of former head coach Charlie Strong. Herman carries a record as Texas head coach of 27-17 in his fourth year at the helm. Meanwhile, Strong carried a record of 16-21 in his three years coaching up Texas.

What Herman and the Longhorns really need to do heading down the stretch in Big 12 play this fall is focus on some positives and figure out where they can take a step in a positive direction from here. With that, here’s a look back at a few honorable mentions and three players that did improve their game greatly under Herman’s direction.
