Texas Football: 3 players that improved the most under Tom Herman
1) Texas football players that improved most under Herman: Devin Duvernay
As the most highly touted signee in the Longhorns 2016 recruiting class, the former elite four-star Sachse wide receiver recruit and the ultra-reliable Devin Duvernay was supposed to be a huge part of the Texas receiving corps for a long time. But it did take a while for Duvernay to get going during his time on the Forty Acres. Everything did finally breakthrough for him last season, though.
Coming out of Sachse High School in Sachse, TX, Duvernay ranked as the nation’s No. 37 2016 high school prospect, No. 5 wide receiver, and No. 4 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).
Duvernay had hands made of glue during his last few years at Texas. He had just five drops over the course of his four years playing for Texas, which came on just shy of 250 targets in the passing game. His junior campaign might’ve been the most impressive in that regards, when he didn’t have a single drop compared to 41 receptions and 65 targets.
And during his tremendous senior season, Duvernay registered 106 receptions for 1,386 receiving yards, nine receiving touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown. Over the course of his four years playing for Texas, he registered 176 receptions for just shy of 2,500 receiving yards (14.0 yards per catch), 16 receiving touchdowns, and that one rushing score.
Duvernay registered his best overall offensive grade and receiving grade of his career by far during his senior season. Not only that, he was one of the highest graded receivers in the entire country last season.
