Texas Football: 3 bold predictions for Sam Ehlinger out of bye week
1) Bold predictions for Texas football QB Sam Ehlinger: Totals more than 50 TD’s
The statistical mark that Ehlinger, by far, is on the best pace for this fall is total touchdowns. He’s registered nearly 1,500 total yards and 21 total touchdowns through four games this season. That’s good for an average of about 370 total yards and 5.25 total touchdowns per game so far this fall.
Keep that up (including a projected bowl game and no appearance in the Big 12 Championship Game for Texas this year), and Ehlinger is projected to cap this season off with 4,070 total yards and around 58 total touchdowns on the season. Those are definitely some Heisman caliber numbers, especially given that projection would only include him playing in 11 games.
But Ehlinger needs to start racking up that type of production without the mistakes, decreasing completion percentage, and without having to come up with the late-game magic. Take out late game runs and overtime, and Ehlinger would roughly have 60 percent the number of total touchdowns that he’s got to his name coming out of the bye week.
The passing numbers for Ehlinger of late are also trending in the wrong direction. He’s now down to a passer efficiency rating lower than he had last season, and around 8.0 adjusted yards per passing attempt. Also two of the three lowest passing grades in any individual game for Ehlinger over the course of the last two seasons were delivered in the losses to TCU and Oklahoma.
