Texas football head coach Tom Herman stated this week that he got two key players back in practice ahead of the Oct. 24 matchup against Baylor.

It would be nice to see this Texas football team as healthy as possible heading into their Oct. 24 home showdown against head coach Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears. Texas is sure to be missing their ultra-talented former five-star recruit and redshirt freshman slot wide receiver Jordan Whittington for at least a couple of weeks. Whittington wasn’t really able to stay healthy at all over the course of his first season and a half in college.

Outside of Whittington, it looks like the Longhorns will see two key players returning to practice this week ahead of the matchup out of the bye against Baylor. Two of those Longhorns players that appear to be getting back in the mix at practice earlier this week are grad transfer senior wide receiver Brenden Schooler and senior defensive back Chris Brown.

Fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman reportedly stated in a press conference this week that the Longhorns would be getting a number of key players back at practice, namely Brown and Schooler. Here’s more on what he had to say in that press conference on the injury situation at practice (per 247Sports).

"“Chris Brown and Brenden Schooler — Chris dealing with a shoulder injury and Brendan with a pretty significant contusion to the inside of his right thigh has had that drain a couple different times. We expect both those guys back for practice on Tuesday. Jake Smith practiced a couple times last week, including yesterday, but Reese Leitao, Tyler Owens and Caden Sterns all practiced for the first time (Sunday), which was encouraging, and we’re planning to get Brayden Liebrock back for Tuesday’s practice with his shoulder subluxation.”"

It’s really good to hear that the likes of sophomore wide receiver Jake Smith and junior safety Caden Sterns are back at practice too. The Longhorns need to be as healthy as they can in the secondary and the receiving corps to be able to put away Baylor this weekend.

What Brown is bringing back for the Longhorns is an experienced DB who is having a nice season so far. He’s registered 21 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, one pass deflection, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery, through four games played this season.

Meanwhile, what Schooler brings back for the Longhorns receiving corps is more needed depth out of the slot. With Whittington out, Schooler is likely to get more looks out of the slot behind Smith. In three games played so far this season, Schooler registered 10 catches for 123 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
