Texas Football: 3 takeaways from convincing win over Baylor
A huge win for the Texas football program arrived on Oct. 24 at home over the slipping Baylor Bears, by a double-digit margin.
A very much needed win for fourth-year Texas football head coach Tom Herman and his team came over head coach Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears on the afternoon of Oct. 24 at home. Texas got this win over Baylor when it looked like nothing was able to go the way of Herman and this team.
Coming into this game, the Longhorns were riding a two-game losing streak. The last loss for the Longhorns came at the hands of head coach Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners in the annual Red River Rivalry game back on Oct. 10, by the final score of 53-45 in four overtimes. And the previous loss that started this slide that Texas had coming into the Baylor game came against head coach Gary Patterson and the TCU Horned Frogs on Oct. 3, by the final score of 33-31.
Finally the Longhorns were able to lock in and get a win when it mattered a ton. Texas needed a win over Baylor both to stay alive in the race to land a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game and to keep their head coach from having his seat heat up even more. And the hot seat of Herman was pretty scorching hot during the bye week.
While it is good for the Longhorns to get this win over Baylor in what seemed like a must win for their head coach, it won’t take all of the pressure off Herman’s shoulders heading into next week. Texas still needs to come up big in a huge looming Halloween showdown on the road on Oct. 31 against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
But here’s a look at three definitive takeaways from the Longhorns win over Baylor, by the final score of 27-16, at home on Oct. 24.
