Texas Football: 3 takeaways from convincing win over Baylor
1) Takeaways from Texas football’s win over Baylor: Sam Ehlinger minimizes mistakes
Outside of one bad pass that resulted in an interception for Baylor, senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger was pretty good for the Longhorns in this game. Ehlinger did have his best run of the game statistically in the second and third quarters. He got off to a slow start, and finished the game in a rough fashion too.
To conclude this game, Ehlinger registered 15 completions on 23 passing attempts, good for 270 passing yards, 11.7 yards per passing attempt, one passing score, and one interception. Ehlinger did extend his interception streak in this game, but that one pass didn’t wind up hurting the Longhorns all too much in the end.
Ehlinger also added 51 rushing yards (3.4 yards per carry) and two rushing touchdowns on the day. He’s now up to around 1,800 total yards on the season, 24 total touchdowns, and five interceptions. The huge stat lines for Ehlinger did slow down a bit in a game that was lower-scoring than first anticipated.
The supporting cast for Ehlinger still had their fair share of ups and downs in the win over Baylor. But big plays from the likes of tight end Jared Wiley and wide receiver Joshua Moore helped to push the Longhorns over the hump from the skill positions. Hopefully the momentum at those positions will only continue to build heading into the Oklahoma State game on Oct. 31.
