Texas Football: 3 overreactions from momentum-shifting win over Baylor
There wasn’t much to get to heated about this weekend in the third win of the season for Texas football, by the final score of 27-16 over the Baylor Bears.
A momentous win for fourth-year Texas football head coach Tom Herman arrived on the afternoon/evening of Oct. 24 over first-year head coach Dave Aranda and the slipping Baylor Bears. Texas got the best of the Bears out of the bye week this weekend at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium by the final score of 27-16.
This was the first double-digit point victory for the Longhorns over any Big 12 opponent since they knocked off the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the regular season finale last year. Texas definitely had their fair share of opportunities to put away a couple of Big 12 foes earlier this season, but Herman never saw his team take advantage.
Heading into this matchup with Baylor, Texas had a two-game losing streak. Those two losses came at the hands of the TCU Horned Frogs (Big 12 home opener on Oct. 3), and the Oklahoma Sooners (Red River Rivalry game on Oct. 10). And Texas played in a combined five overtimes and their other loss came by a margin of two points (against TCU) in their first three Big 12 matchups of the season.
Now that the Longhorns took care of business against Baylor over the weekend, they shift their record to 3-2 (2-2 Big 12) on the season. Meanwhile, Baylor takes a record of 1-2 (1-2 Big 12) out of the weekend. Baylor’s lone win on the season so far came over the Kansas Jayhawks in their opener back on Sep. 26 at home.
Texas got the bounce back performance that they needed to at least take some of the pressure off of Herman’s shoulders and get momentum going in the right direction heading into a key Halloween showdown next weekend. Here’s a look into three overreactions from the win over Baylor on Oct. 24.
