Texas Football: 3 best transfer landing spots for LB Byron Vaughns
Redshirt sophomore Texas football outside linebacker Byron Vaughns had his name show up in the transfer portal over the weekend. Where could he land?
The latest name out of the Texas football program to hit the NCAA Transfer Portal this year surfaced on the night of Oct. 25, to cap the weekend on a bad note. Granted this player that fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman and newly hired defensive coordinator Chris Ash lost to the transfer portal wasn’t as important as the one prior.
The Longhorns defensive player that this team lost to the transfer portal to cap the weekend was redshirt sophomore linebacker and former three-star recruit Byron Vaughns. And the key loss to the transfer portal for the Longhorns defense prior to Vaughns’ name showing up was sophomore cornerback and former highly touted four-star recruit Kenyatta Watson II.
Watson II landed back in his home state with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the ACC after putting his name in the portal and transferring off of the Forty Acres.
Moreover, Vaughns is the third player from the Longhorns roster entering the 2020 season that showed up in the transfer portal. One returned to the Forty Acres this year (defensive end Myron Warren), and then Watson II landed with Georgia Tech.
What Texas is losing to the portal in Vaughns is a former three-star outside linebacker recruit that is a product of Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth, TX. Vaughns ranked as the nation’s No. 445 2018 high school prospect, No. 28 outside linebacker, and No. 64 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).
Vaughns held offers from the likes of the Arkansas Razorbacks, Baylor Bears, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, TCU Horned Frogs, and Texas A&M Aggies. He had slightly over a dozen offers coming out of high school.
And here’s a look into three potential landing spots for Vaughns after his name landed in the transfer portal over the weekend.
