Despite the win over the Baylor Bears last weekend, Texas football head coach Tom Herman is still sitting on a fairly hot seat heading into OK State.

The not too fruitful results through five games in a season where fourth-year Texas football head coach Tom Herman had some really lofty expectations for his team led to a lot of disappointment around the fan base and college football landscape in general. Texas came into the 2020 campaign with yet another top 15 ranking in both major polls.

And just like the Longhorns did last season, a once promising campaign turned to a moot point by the halfway point of the Big 12 schedule. Texas can’t get through their early-to-midway point of any Big 12 schedule under Herman’s direction without catching some casualties that seemed very unlikely at the outset of the regular season.

This year, it was a near loss to the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Big 12 opener on the road back on Sep. 26 and a defeat in the Big 12 home opener on Oct. 3 to the TCU Horned Frogs that are the worst looks. And the four overtime loss in the annual Red River Rivalry game to the Oklahoma Sooners back on Oct. 10 also greatly frustrated the Longhorns fan base given that it was a very winnable game. And Oklahoma isn’t at their most efficient that they’ve been in the last few years.

This Oklahoma team was very beatable for a squad as talented and experienced as the Longhorns this year.

But that is the ongoing storyline that will impact how the Herman tenure is viewed throughout the season. Herman now carries a record of 3-2 (2-2 Big 12) into a key showdown on Oct. 31 against the undefeated and No. 6 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys on the road. This weekend’s contest against the Big 12’s College Football Playoff favorite at this point will say a lot about how hot Herman’s seat actually is at the moment.

Here’s a look into three reasons why the Longhorns should at least let Herman see out the 2020 season.
