Texas Football: Ossai, Ehlinger injured, but should be ready vs. OK State
A good number of Texas football players are dealing with ailments coming off of the Baylor game, but should be ready to go against Oklahoma State.
A plethora of what looks to be minor injuries to key players on both sides of the ball for the Texas football program heading out of the weekend where they took down the Baylor Bears is a significant storyline to watch heading into Halloweekend. Texas is set to take on the No. 6 ranked and undefeated Oklahoma State Cowboys this coming weekend, on the afternoon of Oct. 31, to potentially move back closer to the top of the Big 12 standings.
Texas carries a record of 3-2 (2-2 Big 12) after taking care of business against Baylor by the final score of 27-16 at home over the weekend. That win over Baylor stopped a two-game skid that came at the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners and TCU Horned Frogs. It was also the first win for the Longhorns and fourth-year head coach Tom Herman in the month of October.
This potentially game-changing win for the Longhorns over Baylor on Oct. 24 could be a really important marker on the 2020 season if they’re able to pull off a big upset next weekend on the road against Oklahoma State. And it looks like they’re going to have a minimal number of players missing due to injury against the Pokes.
According to a Horns247 report (paid content), Texas does have quite a few players dealing with various nagging injuries following the win over Baylor. The list of players dealing with injuries out of the weekend includes senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger, junior linebacker Joseph Ossai, sophomore running back Roschon Johnson, and junior safety/defensive back B.J. Foster.
Ehlinger apparently “took a helmet to the calf” during the Baylor game last weekend, and is dealing with a contusion and some significant swelling. But he sounds like he’ll be ready to go against Baylor.
The injury to Ossai was more notable against Baylor, as he had to be helped off the field when he suffered a shoulder ailment. What is potentially concerning about the Ossai injury is the fact that is dealt with the left shoulder issue last year, and it appears to be back again.
Roschon is dealing with the greatest number of injuries of any player in this report. He suffered different ailments in various upper-body blows in each of the games against Oklahoma, TCU, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He was limited against Baylor, but should have a heavier workload against Oklahoma State.
In the win over Baylor, Foster was playing with a cast on his arm as he played through a sprained wrist. He could be limited in practice in certain football activities again this week, but he should be healthier come the meeting with Oklahoma State on Oct. 31.
Texas will kick off against Oklahoma State in the mid-afternoon slate, at 3 p.m. CT, on the road at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater. The Longhorns are hoping to extend their winning streak to two games, while the Pokes come in with a record of 4-0 (3-0 Big 12).
