There’s not a much left for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class to go after ahead of the Early Signing Period, but which prospects could they flip?

If fourth-year head coach Tom Herman can get his team playing well headed down the stretch for the 2020 season, it would go a long way to rounding out the 2021 Texas football recruiting class on a high note. The Early Signing Period is just over a month and a half away, and most of the nation’s best high school prospects will have their National Letter of Intent signed.

Waiting to commit and sign on National Signing Day is still something that a few high school prospects take part in, but it’s usually five percent or less of the overall blue chip prospect pool. This recruiting cycle will see a bevy of JUCO prospects waiting until National Signing Day to make their commitments. But that’s due to the JUCO season getting pushed back until spring in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic (if it happens at all).

Since the JUCO prospects in this cycle likely won’t come to the forefront until after the turn of the calendar year for Herman and the Longhorns, where can he look ahead of the Early Signing Period?

A key niche that the Longhorns could potentially work their way into is with flipping some underrated prospects at positions of need. Texas was more of a victim of prospects flipping over the course of the last 12 months than they were a benefactor. Maybe this is a point where Herman and his coaching staff could turn the tables on their Big 12 foes on the recruiting trail.

Texas already appears to be trying to get their foot in the door with a number of other committed prospects around the Big 12. This could be an opportunity to turn the corner for the Longhorns 2021 recruiting class that had a lot of misfortune on the trail of late.

Here’s a look at three key 2021 targets that Texas could try and flip to get into their class.
