Another standout Longhorns 2021 NFL Draft prospect that looks to have an increasingly slim chance to return to the Forty Acres next season is the redshirt junior offensive tackle Sam Cosmi. This sizable 6-foot-7 and 305 pound offensive lineman and former underrated three-star recruit is putting together the most consistent season among all of the Longhorns in the trenches on offense through five games.

The way that Cosmi continues to solidify his spot of the offensive line in front of Ehlinger, and continue to remain healthy and un-penalized while the rest of his counterparts do not, shows that his NFL Draft stock should rise. But Cosmi doesn’t really need his draft stock to rise all that much to solidify his status as a projected first round pick.

Cosmi looks to already be one of the top offensive tackle prospects in this draft class. Walter Football still projects that Cosmi can fall as a first round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and ranks him among the top three at his position and among the top five offensive linemen overall. There’s a real chance that Cosmi could be the next offensive tackle off the board after the Oregon Ducks star Penei Sewell.

In more than 380 snaps through five games played for Cosmi this season, he ranks in the top five in the FBS in both pass blocking grade and overall offensive graded among offensive linemen. Cosmi is doing a good job with consistency and discipline so far this season, with no penalties called against him and no significant injuries. He’s allowed two sacks, five quarterback hurries, and two additional pressures this season.
