1) Why Texas football can upset Oklahoma State: This isn’t the Gundy offense we’re used to

Potentially the weirdest part about the Longhorns facing the Pokes this year is the dynamic to which this game will probably take. Texas doesn’t have the same consistency on offense that they had down the stretch last season, and the defense is allowing even more points per game this year than they did last.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma State isn’t putting up all that big of offensive numbers through four games this season. Oklahoma State is scoring well under 30 points per game this season (specifically 28.5), good for outside of the top 50 teams in the FBS. But their defense is their real strength so far this season. The Pokes are allowing just 12 points per game, good for top 10 in the FBS.

This might be the best Gundy defense that has ever been present in Stillwater. But if Texas can really stretch the field on the Pokes, then they have a real shot to break through this stout defense. Of just five touchdowns that the Oklahoma State defense allowed this season, four were on plays of at least 15 yards, three were on plays of at least 20 yards, and two on plays of more than 60.

The home run play is really the only major flaw showing up for the Oklahoma State defense so far this season.

Get the likes of wide receivers Jake Smith and Joshua Moore going and working down the field, and the Longhorns could have a real chance to get through a stifling Oklahoma State defense. The home run potential is there for the Longhorns offense this weekend.
