Texas Football: Quinn Ewers trending to Ohio State after decommitment
A monumental blow was dealt to the 2022 Texas football recruiting class on the night of Oct. 28, with 5-Star QB Quinn Ewers announcing his decommitment.
The bad news just keeps pouring on for fourth-year head coach Tom Herman, this time associated with his 2022 Texas football recruiting class. The worst happened on the night of Oct. 28, with the decommitment of the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers. The news dropped on the Twitter timeline of Ewers on Oct. 28 to make his decommitment from Texas public.
What the Longhorns are losing after Ewers re-opened his recruitment tonight is the nation’s No. 2 2022 high school prospect, and the top overall pro-style quarterback and prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the top overall 2022 high school prospect in the nation.
Ewers was the highest rated quarterback commit the Longhorns had landed since former head coach Mack Brown signed the five-star dual-threat quarterback Vince Young in his 2002 recruiting class.
The question that everyone is asking after Ewers decommitted from Texas is where is he going to land next?
Ewers currently holds offers from 30 schools, including from the Longhorns. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Oklahoma Sooners, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, Ohio State Buckeyes, and USC Trojans.
But the one offer that Ewers holds at the moment that seems to be sticking above all of the rest is from second-year head coach Ryan Day and Ohio State. This wouldn’t be the first time that the Buckeyes stole away an in-state five-star skill position recruit from the Longhorns. They did it a few cycles ago with five-star wide receiver and Austin, TX, native Garrett Wilson.
Now it appears that Ohio State is trying to pry Ewers and five-star wide receiver Caleb Burton to their 2022 recruiting class, and firmly away from the Longhorns.
The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions now has all of their experts picking Ewers to commit to Ohio State over Texas and the rest of the field. Burton is also trending to land with the Buckeyes as of the night of Oct. 28.
The Rivals FutureCast also now has pretty much all of their analysts and publishers picking Ewers to commit to Ohio State.
According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 11 in the nation and remains behind Oklahoma in the second spot in the Big 12. Their two commits remaining in the 2022 class are four-star wide receiver Phaizon Wilson and four-star cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau.
