Where does the 2022 Texas football recruiting class now turn to land a quarterback after losing the commitment from the elite 5-Star Quinn Ewers?

This really hurts, and it is really difficult to write about looking through burnt orange colored glasses. But this is what it has come to for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class. Now that the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers re-opened his recruitment on the night of Oct. 28, Texas has to figure out what is next for their 2022 class.

Losing a commitment from Ewers is about the worst news that could come the way of fourth-year head coach Tom Herman, give the Longhorns already recent struggles on the field and on the recruiting trail. This news makes losing the commitment of the highly coveted four-star Denton-Ryan athlete Billy Bowman Jr. look pretty insignificant.

And Bowman Jr. decommitting from the Longhorns 2021 recruiting class definitely wasn’t punitive news.

But there’s not much clarity as to where the Longhorns can go from here. Losing a commitment from Ewers is something that will impact Texas on the recruiting trail for months, and potentially years, to come. He was a possible generational talent and an in-state prospect that was important for the Longhorns to keep here.

Once again, the powers that be in the state of Texas could wind up seeing a top tier talent walk in the very near future. At this moment, it looks like Ewers is trending to the Ohio State Buckeyes and second-year head coach Ryan Day. Ohio State could wind up hauling in a trio including five-star cornerback Domani Jackson, five-star wide receiver Caleb Burton, and Ewers, all at once.

So with all of the trouble and distractions that could come from losing Ewers in the next few months, where does Texas look to try and make up for this massive loss at the quarterback position in the 2022 class?
