1) 2022 Texas football QB targets to replace Ewers: Maalik Murphy

After losing the commitment from Ewers there’s not much better that the Longhorns could do than trying to get the highly coveted five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy in their 2022 class. This stellar 6-foot-4 and 215 pound California native is one of the highest rated 2022 prospects that Texas has already offered.

Murphy was a target of the Longhorns for a good while now, so at least Herman and his coaching staff would have their foot in the door with this prospect. That’s not something the staff could boast about many other quarterback targets that remain uncommitted that they have a realistic shot at landing.

But landing Murphy won’t be easy in the slightest for Herman and the Longhorns. He holds offers from more than 25 schools. The highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Michigan Wolverines, Oregon Ducks, UCLA Bruins, Ohio State, Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia, LSU, USC Trojans, and Washington.

Murphy ranks as the nation’s No. 31 2022 high school prospect, No. 2 pro-style quarterback, and No. 4 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 63 high school prospect, No. 3 pro-style quarterback, and No. 5 prospect out of California.

As far as the 247Sports Composite is concerned, what’s better for Texas than getting a commitment from the second-highest rated pro-style quarterback prospect since they lost Ewers.
