There was a big boost that Texas football got on special teams against Oklahoma State, as D’shawn Jamison housed a kick return at a key time.

Just when it looked like fourth-year Texas football head coach Tom Herman was going to watch his team go away against the undefeated and No. 6 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys on Oct. 31 on the road, junior cornerback and versatile special teams playmaker D’shawn Jamison brought them back. Jamison single-handedly got some immediate excitement back in the Longhorns chances to pull off this massive upset of Oklahoma State.

Around the halfway point of the third quarter, the Longhorns were starting to fade a bit down 11 points, but Jamison took back the next kick off for a touchdown return of more than 100 yards. It was the first special teams touchdown of the season for Jamison. He actually got his first special teams touchdown this year before he got his initial interception.

Jamison was looking for that opportunity he had to breakthrough this season, and that might just be the play he needed at least on special teams. He helped bring the Longhorns back within just five points of Oklahoma State. And if not for a weird unsportsmanlike conduct call that cost Texas 15 yards on the extra-point attempt, they would be down by just four.

Junior kicker Cameron Dicker wound up missing the extra-point try from more than 30 yards. It was the first extra-point try miss of Dicker’s season, and just the third of his career. But it hurt the Longhorns as they tried to take back the lead against the Pokes.

For his career to date, Jamison now has more than 625 kick return yards, and two touchdowns on that phase of special teams. He also has more than 300 punt return yards, and one punt return for a touchdown.

The impact that Jamison had for the Longhorns is much bigger on special teams this year than on defense. Jamison has registered more than 10 combined tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, and four pass breakups (including one so far against the Pokes) playing at corner this season.
