Former Texas football 4-Star ATH commit Billy Bowman Jr. picks OU
The 2021 Texas football recruiting class got bad news to cap the weekend with the commitment of 4-Star ATH Billy Bowman Jr. to Oklahoma.
A prospect who was one of the biggest parts of the 2021 Texas football recruiting class for fourth-year head coach Tom Herman is the elite four-star Denton-Ryan athlete Billy Bowman Jr. But it appears that the worst is about to happen in the pursuit of getting Bowman Jr. back in the 2021 recruiting class.
To cap a roller coaster ride of a late week and weekend for the Longhorns on the field and on the recruiting trail, Herman and his staff got the news that Bowman Jr. would be moving his commitment to head coach Lincoln Riley and the rival Oklahoma Sooners. Bowman Jr. announced his commitment to Riley and the Sooners on his Twitter timeline on the night of Nov. 1.
A nice upset win for Herman and the Longhorns over the previously undefeated and No. 6 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys looked like it could be a great weekend on the Forty Acres. But seeing Bowman Jr. flip his commitment from Texas to north of the Red River with the Sooners was a poor way to round things out on the recruiting trail.
Although seeing Bowman Jr. land with Oklahoma does hurt, the writing was on the wall for a few weeks now that this could happen. He was trending to commit to Oklahoma for more than the last 10 days.
What Oklahoma is getting out of the 5-foot-10 and 175 pound athlete hailing out of Denton, TX, is the nation’s No. 33 2021 high school prospect, No. 3 athlete, and No. 6 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 35 high school prospect, No. 3 athlete, and No. 5 prospect out of Texas.
Bowman Jr. wound up committing to Oklahoma over offers from more than 30 other schools (including one from Texas). The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oregon Ducks, Penn State Nittany Lions, TCU Horned Frogs, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and USC Trojans.
According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class ranks at 17 in the nation and remains in the second spot in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma. Oklahoma now ranks at No. 12 in the national class rankings.
