3) Overreactions from Texas football’s win over OK State: Bijan Robinson could take the torch from Chuba Hubbard

What we’re seeing happen in the Longhorns backfield from the early portions of the regular season is the passing of the torch within this running back room from junior Keaontay Ingram to the likes of sophomore Roschon Johnson and true freshman former five-star recruit Bijan Robinson. Johnson and Robinson are looking much more efficient of late for the Longhorns than Ingram.

It looked like the top dog among all of the running backs in this Texas-Oklahoma State game last weekend was going to be the Pokes redshirt junior star and Canadian Chuba Hubbard. But the most efficient rusher that actually got a heavy workload in this game on either team was Robinson, not Hubbard.

While Hubbard did have more total yards, and rushing yards in particular, on the day than Robinson, the standout first-year running back was much more efficient when given the ball. Robinson took 13 carries for 59 rushing yards (4.5 yards per carry), with a long run of 24 yards in this game. Johnson added 49 rushing yards on nine carries (5.4 yards per carry), with a long run on the day of 29 yards.

Meanwhile, Hubbard tallied up 72 rushing yards on 25 carries, with no rushing touchdowns. That amounted to just 2.9 yards per carry. Texas’ top two running backs averaged around five yards per carry on the day, while Oklahoma State’s (Hubbard and LD Brown) averaged well under four yards per carry.

It looks like the running back that was considered to be one of the best not just in the Big 12, but in the entire country, was shown up by the likes of Johnson and Robinson last weekend.
