2) Overreactions from Texas football’s win over OK State: Joseph Ossai is the brightest star

It’s hard to argue that star junior linebacker and former four-star recruit Joseph Ossai was not the brightest star for either team in this game. The type of performance that Ossai put forward in this upset win over Oklahoma State is one that helped to confirm his rise to stardom. He already had other breakthrough performances in the last year and a half.

But nothing came close to what Ossai did on Halloween Day. Ossai registered more than half of his number of sacks on the season so far, and half of the tackles for loss, just in this game alone. He racked up 12.0 total tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in this game.

His number of tackles for loss and sacks were both career highs in any game in his three years playing for Texas to date.

On the season in total, Ossai has now registered 46.0 total tackles, 12.0 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two pass deflections, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. What’s more impressive about both his stat line on the season, and in this game in particular, is that he is just 1.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks away from matching his total from all of last season. And he didn’t miss any tackles in the win over Oklahoma State.

Ossai is truly a potential superstar in the making for this Texas defense. He just keeps getting better, and has become a real weapon to use to blow up the opposing team’s backfield for first-year defensive coordinator Chris Ash. Ossai is both the glue and the biggest star on this side of the ball for the Longhorns at this point of the season.
