1) Overreactions from Texas football’s win over OK State: Herman and Ehlinger are at their best with their backs against the wall

Initially, I think that most Longhorns fans and people in the media felt like Herman was the biggest benefactor of any player or coach associated with this team in the last couple of years from being put on a hot seat and under a bright spotlight. But we’re starting to see that the same could be very true for senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger.

Ehlinger was limited in a big way for a pretty tough Oklahoma State defense until the very end of this game. He had just one passing touchdown for roughly 75 percent of this game. But once again, Ehlinger and Herman saw this team get a big push in the end. And this time it just so happened to result in an overtime win.

No one FBS head coach needed a win over the weekend either on the field or on the recruiting trail more than Herman. And his star senior quarterback helped to get him that win with another late fourth quarter touchdown. Ehlinger delivered a remarkable touchdown pass to Jake Smith in regulation and then to Joshua Moore in overtime.

On the season to date, Ehlinger has registered 1,650 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, 284 rushing yards, and seven rushing touchdowns. Just like in the Oct. 24 win over Baylor, Ehlinger limited the mistakes and managed the game well. It seems to work out well for Texas when he does that.
