Texas Football: McConaughey gives ecstatic reaction to upset of OK State
Minister of culture and famed actor Matthew McConaughey gave his ecstatic reaction over the weekend to the Texas football upset win over OK State.
One of the most notable alumni of the University of Texas-Austin, actor/writer/director and minister of culture Matthew McConaughey, gave his take on social media following a big win for Texas football over the weekend. Texas Exes around the country had to be both surprised and thrilled with the upset win on the road on Oct. 31 over the previously undefeated and No. 6 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Texas entered last weekend’s matchup with longtime head coach Mike Gundy and the Pokes with a record of 3-2 (2-2 Big 12). Meanwhile, Oklahoma State entered with a record of 4-0 (3-0 Big 12) and looked like the front runner out of the Big 12 to make the College Football Playoff during Week 9 of the 2020 season.
But fourth-year head coach Tom Herman came under a lot of fire recently, and he did a lot to help his job security with the upset win over Oklahoma State. While the Longhorns were only around a 3.5-point underdog ahead of kick off against the Pokes over the weekend, it felt like there was so much on the line for them to get the victory.
After the upset win over the Pokes on the road on Halloweekend, big time voices around the Longhorns and the University of Texas gave their reactions on social media. One of the most significant was that of McConaughey, who hit Twitter on the night of Oct. 31. McConaughey stated “W on the way to Awesome. Longhorn Nation keep head and heart high. Belief Will Lead.”
Before this game kicked off, McConaughey helped to lay out what the expectations are for the Longhorns football program (specifically to address the mounting pressure on Herman last week). Essentially McConaughey expressed the mounting frustration with the lack of positive results on the field of late, and that this fan base expects the Longhorns to consistently “compete for titles”.
Texas now moves to a record of 4-2 (3-2 Big 12) on the season, after pulling off the upset win over Oklahoma State on the road by the final score of 41-34 in overtime. Next up for the Longhorns is a battle with the West Virginia Mountaineers at home on Nov. 7.
