Latest 247Sports bowl projections have Texas football in Cotton Bowl
Head Texas football coach Tom Herman got the win he needed last weekend, against Oklahoma State, now with an improved bowl outlook heading into Week 10.
A huge win over the weekend for the Texas football program over the previously undefeated and No. 6 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys put this team back in the AP Poll, at No. 22, and back in the conversation near the top of the Big 12 standings. Entering last weekend, it looked like Oklahoma State was the clear front runner to make the College Football Playoff and win the Big 12.
But fourth-year head coach Tom Herman and the Longhorns threw the Big 12 into further chaos by muddying the waters for them and the Oklahoma schools at the top of the conference standings. There’s some weird formation near the top of the Big 12 now between the Oklahoma schools and the Longhorns.
Texas got the upset win over Oklahoma State in overtime on the road back on Oct. 31, by the final score of 41-34. They pulled off a 21-point rally late in the second half and on into overtime. So where does Texas (4-2, 3-2 Big 12) sit in the postseason picture entering Week 10 of the college football season following this upset win over the Pokes?
The latest bowl projections from 247Sports has the Longhorns in a pretty solid postseason slot, facing the Wisconsin Badgers out of the Big Ten in the Cotton Bowl. Here’s more on what the latest bowl projections from 247Sports had to say on them slotting the Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl to face the Badgers this season.
"The Longhorns replace Oklahoma State as the projected Big 12 champion this week, but perhaps we’re overreacting just a bit. Oklahoma has a shot too down the stretch during what’s expected to be a wild finish in the conference."
It sounds like there is a growing school of thought that the Longhorns could be replacing Oklahoma State as the front runner once again to win the Big 12. But you can’t discount the Sooners since they did beat the Longhorns in the annual Red River Rivalry game back on Oct. 10, by the final score of 53-45 in four overtimes.
Next up for the Longhorns is a matchup with the 4-2 West Virginia Mountaineers at home on Nov. 7. Texas could build their winning streak up to three games if they can triumph over an improving West Virginia team next weekend.
