What are the most notable and hurtful disasters that head coach Tom Herman has led to during his time on the trail for Texas football recruiting?

The fortunes for the 2021 and 2022 Texas football recruiting classes of late were not very good. Fourth-year head coach Tom Herman saw his results both on the field and on the recruiting trail slip for quite a bit of the month of October. At least Texas’ results on the field dramatically improved near the end of the month. Texas built a two-game winning streak by knocking off the Baylor Bears at home back on Oct. 24, and then the No. 6 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys last weekend on the road on Oct. 31.

While the Longhorns now carry a record of 4-2 (3-2 Big 12) and a No. 22 ranking in the AP Poll heading into Week 10 of the college football season, there’s still challenges that lie ahead. Texas still needs to somehow get it together on the recruiting trail in the near future, which could be a big challenge for Herman and his coaching staff.

The month of October was definitely not a good one for Herman and the Longhorns on the recruiting trail. The 2022 class was nearly decimated by decommitments, and the 2021 class had that trend going a little bit ahead of last month. Just a month and a half away from the start of the Early Signing Period, Texas is running out of time to get their 2021 class filled up.

Not all that many key targets for the 2021 class are going to hold off on their commitments until National Signing Day. So the Early Signing Period will be huge for the Longhorns, and hopefully they can parlay some of the positive results on the field over to success on the trail in the very near future.

But let’s take a moment to reflect on the worst that has happened under Herman’s direction on the recruiting trail since he took over as Texas head coach four years ago.
