A nice win back on the afternoon/evening of Oct. 31 for the Texas football program over Oklahoma State took some heat off of Tom Herman.

It was a huge weekend for the Texas football program, in getting the upset win over the No. 6 ranked and previously undefeated Oklahoma State Cowboys. But it won’t mean all that much if fourth-year head coach Tom Herman and this Texas team can’t knock off the West Virginia Mountaineers this coming weekend as they return home on Nov. 7.

Both Texas and West Virginia come in with identical records of 4-2 (3-2 Big 12) on the season so far. West Virginia is coming off a huge upset win for their program and second-year head coach Neal Brown last weekend, over the previously No. 16 ranked Kansas State Wildcats by the final score of 37-10 at home in Morgantown back on Oct. 31.

Halloweekend was another crazy one around the Big 12 last weekend. Texas knocked off the team that seemed like the Big 12 front runner at the outset of Week 9. Longtime head coach Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State was bounced from College Football Playoff contention, at least for the time being, by the Longhorns upset win by the final score of 41-34 in overtime last weekend.

With the win over Oklahoma State, the Longhorns hold that aforementioned record of 4-2 (3-2 Big 12) on the season. They now have a two-game winning streak going for the first time since the first two games of the regular season. This win streak is built on triumphs over Oklahoma State and the Baylor Bears in a home contest back on Oct. 24, that ended with a score of 27-16.

At least for now, Herman got a lot of pressure off of his shoulders with the win over Oklahoma State. Here’s a look at three reasons why he’s taken a lot of heat off of his seat for the time being.
