2) Why Texas football HC Herman took pressure off: Search to recover the 2022 class

Absolute disaster struck for the Longhorns 2022 recruiting class late last week when Herman got the news that he would be losing the commitment of the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers. Seeing the nation’s top ranked 2022 quarterback prospect (and overall prospect for that cycle depending on the outlet you look at) walk away from the 2022 class was very disheartening.

And shortly after the Longhorns got the news of Ewers re-opening his recruitment back on the night of Nov. 28, they also lost the commitment of the highly touted four-star Lancaster wide receiver Phaizon Wilson. That just leaves the four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau as the lone remaining commit in the 2022 class at the moment.

The question now remains for Herman and the Longhorns of who he can turn to next to fill the need at the quarterback position in the 2022 class.

One of the first names that came to mind immediately, and one who recently received a Texas scholarship offer, is the local hometown four-star Westlake pro-style quarterback Cade Klubnik. Klubnik received his Texas offer on Oct. 31, on the same day that the Longhorns pulled off that upset of the Pokes on the road.

This 6-foot-2.5 and 180 pound talented signal caller hailing out of Austin, TX, ranks as the nation’s No. 258 2022 high school prospect, No. 10 pro-style quarterback, and No. 36 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks as the nation’s No. 220 high school prospect, No. 7 pro-style quarterback, and 30 prospect out of Texas.

There’s a realistic shot that Herman could get a commitment from Klubnik in the near future.
