The 2022 Texas football recruiting class looks like it is losing the interest of the highly touted 5-Star CB Domani Jackson, and fast.

The fortunes for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class and fourth-year head coach Tom Herman weren’t all that good of late. To say that the results on the recruiting trail for the 2022 class over the course of the last week or so were anything but disastrous might be understating the current situation for this coaching staff.

Last week, the Longhorns and their 2022 recruiting class lost out on the commitment of the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers on the night of Oct. 28. That set off a cataclysmic set of events that helped to dismantle most of the 2022 class for Herman and the Longhorns. They also lost out on the commitment of the four-star Lancaster wide receiver Phaizon Wilson.

The lone commit remaining in the 2022 class is the four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau. And who knows if his commitment will be around for that much longer?

But one huge target of the Longhorns 2022 class that seems now to be getting out of the reach of Herman and first-year defensive coordinator/safeties coach Chris Ash (and maybe more specifically cornerbacks coach Jay Valai) is the elite five-star Mater Dei cornerback Domani Jackson. For the 2020 recruiting class, Texas missed out on the commitment of the five-star Saguaro cornerback Kelee Ringo.

Since Texas missed out on a big time cornerback target in Ringo to the Georgia Bulldogs last year, landing Jackson became that much more important. But now it appears that Jackson could be headed to the same landing spot as Ewers. The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions now have Jackson’s commitment trending to land with the Ohio State Buckeyes over the rest of the competition.

This 6-foot-1 and 185 pound cornerback product hailing out of Santa Ana, CA, holds offers from just shy of 40 schools. The other highlighting schools on Jackson’s offer sheet includes the Michigan Wolverines, Alabama Crimson Tide, USC Trojans, Clemson Tigers, Florida Gators, Georgia, LSU Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, Tennessee Volunteers, and Washington Huskies.

Jackson ranks as the nation’s No. 3 2022 high school prospect, and the top overall cornerback and prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 is close to the 247Sports Composite, ranking him as the nation’s No. 4 high school prospect, and the top overall cornerback and prospect out of California.

There are now multiple sources around the recruiting landscape that have Jackson trending to landing with Ohio State. The Rivals FutureCast has 83 percent of their analysts and publishers picking Jackson to commit to Ohio State over the likes of USC, Texas, and the rest of the field.

Next. 3 reasons why Tom Herman saved his job for now. dark

We definitely shouldn’t count out any schools that might sit among Jackson’s finalists, but the two to watch it seems are Ohio State and USC. There is a real shot that Ohio State gets a huge trio of 2022 commits with the likes of Jackson, Ewers, and five-star wide receiver Caleb Burton.
