Texas Football: 3 problematic Mountaineers for the Longhorns
An upstart West Virginia Mountaineers team can’t be slept on by the Texas football program come this weekend at home at DKR.
While the minds of a lot of Texas football fans still focus up on the win that was last weekend over the previously No. 6 ranked and undefeated Oklahoma State Cowboys, a difficult match looms just over the horizon against second-year head coach Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers. A team that is adept to taking care of business, whether it be in upset fashion or not, on the Forty Acres is about to travel to Austin this weekend.
Texas and West Virginia both helped to plunge the Big 12 into further chaos last weekend. Fourth-year head coach Tom Herman pulled off the big upset over longtime head coach Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State on the road back on Oct. 31, by the final score of 41-34 in overtime. That pushed the Longhorns to boast a record of 4-2 (3-2 Big 12). They currently have a two-game winning streak going heading into the weekend.
Meanwhile, West Virginia also comes into this meeting with Texas with a record of 4-2 (3-2 Big 12). West Virginia is coming off a nice win for Brown and his team over the previously No. 16 ranked Kansas State Wildcats by the final score of 37-10.
Both Texas and West Virginia do come into this game with a sizable amount of momentum. But it’s hard to see the loser here realistically contending for a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game moving forward. It’s hard to get to the Big 12 Championship Game with three losses in conference play and with three games remaining.
Nonetheless, there’s a plethora of quality contributors on both sides of the ball for the Mountaineers that the Longhorns have to deal with. Here’s a look at three of the most problematic West Virginia players for Texas on either side of the ball this weekend.
