2) Problematic Mountaineers for Texas football: Winston Wright Jr.

A real breakthrough is occurring for the Mountaineers at the wide receiver position with two different players. And each of these breakthrough West Virginia wide receivers this season are sophomores. One is the 5-foot-10 and 180 pound speedster Winston Wright Jr. And the other is the sizable 6-foot-3 and 220 pound wideout Bryce Ford-Wheaton.

The former of those two wide receivers could be the most problematic for the Longhorns defense due to the unique nature of how Brown and the Mountaineers can use him. Most of the receiving yards this season for Wright Jr. actually came up the middle. He’s not a huge deep threat, although he shouldn’t be slept on in that regard.

He can be hit on intermediate routes and slant/short routes closer to the line of scrimmage. Really anywhere within 10-15 yards from the line of scrimmage can be a serious threat for Wright Jr. to make things happen. Wright Jr. has shown off his real elusiveness in the open field with well over half of his receiving yards coming from yards after the catch.

Wright Jr. only has two drops on the season to date, no penalties called against him, and he hasn’t coughed up any fumbles. This is a real brewing solid quarterback-wide receiver connection for West Virginia between the former Bowling Green transfer Jarret Doege and Wright Jr. It is something to watch for the Longhorns secondary this weekend.
