What looks to be a pretty difficult test for Texas football lies ahead this weekend against the upstart West Virginia Mountaineers at home on Nov. 7.

Getting past the No. 6 ranked and undefeated Oklahoma State Cowboys on the road on Oct. 31 was a huge triumph for fourth-year head coach Tom Herman and the Texas football program. Texas knocked off longtime head coach Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State last weekend at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater by the final score of 41-34 in overtime.

A week that went poorly for Herman and the Longhorns leading up to the Oklahoma State game finished on a high note. They had lost the commitment of the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers on Oct. 28, but recovered in the right fashion over the weekend.

Texas comes into this game with a record of 4-2 (3-2 Big 12) after knocking off Oklahoma State last weekend by that seven-point margin in overtime. They’re looking to build a three-game winning streak if they can beat the West Virginia Mountaineers this weekend.

Meanwhile, West Virginia comes into this game with a record of 4-2 (3-2 Big 12), after knocking off the No. 16 ranked Kansas State Wildcats back on Oct. 31 by the final score of 37-10. West Virginia looks to be one of the real rebound stories of the 2020 season thus far out of the Big 12.

Entering this game, Texas is the favorite by just under a full touchdown margin in the betting line. But the ESPN Football Power Index gives the Longhorns more than an 82 percent chance to knock off the Mountaineers.

Here’s a look at the live stream, kick off time, pick for the game, and more as Texas takes on West Virginia at home on Nov. 7.

Injured Texas football players

Texas is set to be pretty healthy again when they take on West Virginia. Junior linebacker Joseph Ossai and senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger look to be healthy and ready to go after they underwent their own various ailments since the wins over the Baylor Bears and Oklahoma State.

Ehlinger had a number of lower-body injuries that he dealt with since the start of the season. But that’s not too unusual for him given the physical nature of his game and the raw amount of hits he takes. Ossai had a shoulder injury that has bothered him at times it looks like in the last few weeks. But he’s ready to go against West Virginia.

Meanwhile, the two most notable players that look to be out for the Longhorns in this game will be redshirt freshman wide receiver Jordan Whittington and redshirt sophomore linebacker Ayodele Adeoye. The news dropped on Nov. 6 that Adeoye is likely to miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. And Whittington is still recovering from his knee injury that he got surgery for last month.

Picking Texas football vs. West Virginia

Texas is favored in both the betting line and the ESPN FPI, so they should hold a decent edge in this game. But we shouldn’t discount how well West Virginia is playing of late. Take out a bad second half they played in a road loss to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, and you get a West Virginia team that was really solid so far this season.

Expect for Ehlinger to have a much better game statistically than he did in last week’s narrow win over Oklahoma State. It just seems fitting that he would get back on track against a West Virginia team that he played well against last season.

Next. 3 reasons West Virginia could upset Texas. dark

Texas will ride a solid game from the likes of Ehlinger, redshirt sophomore wide receiver Joshua Moore, and true freshman running back Bijan Robinson, to a too close for comfort win over West Virginia. It will be a close one it seems tomorrow.

Final score prediction: Texas 28, West Virginia 24
