Texas Football: 3 takeaways from near upset loss to West Virginia
1) Takeaways from Texas football’s win over WVU: Bijan Robinson is a problem
In the best sense possible, the true freshman running back and former five-star recruit Bijan Robinson is emerging as a problem for the Big 12. Robinson just keeps getting better and better this season, and that’s a really good sign for this offense. They need another weapon outside of Ehlinger and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Joshua Moore to step up, and Robinson might be that guy.
Even Moore has really slowed down of late. The most reliable wide receivers for the Longhorns in the last two games were Smith and junior Brennan Eagles. But Robinson could be that other go-to option that could really help put the offense over the top. First-year offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich could have his x-factor in store after this showing from the true freshman.
In this game alone, Robinson registered 113 rushing yards on 12 attempts, with no rushing touchdowns. That’s good for an average of a whopping 9.4 yards per carry. He also added 38 receiving yards on two catches, including the play that effectively sealed the win for the Longhorns on a 35 yard reception late in the fourth quarter.
It is tough to believe that Robinson is still seeking out his first touchdown of the season. But he does now have more than 400 total yards from scrimmage, and is averaging well over five yards per carry. Considering that sophomore running back Roschon Johnson had some trouble finding room to maneuver in this game (10 carries for 29 rushing yards and no rushing scores), Robinson could be the answer for the Longhorns from here on out.
