The fifth win of the season didn’t come easy for Texas football this weekend in a narrow four-point triumph over the West Virginia Mountaineers.

For the second week in a row, Texas football had a game come down to the final minutes before they could seal the win. While Texas’ win over the West Virginia Mountaineers at home on Nov. 7 didn’t carry into overtime, like three of their other games have this season, it seemed very close to going that far.

Last weekend, the Longhorns downed the previously undefeated and No. 6 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys on the road in Stillwater back on Oct. 31, by the final score of 41-34 in overtime. That road upset victory over longtime head coach Mike Gundy and the Pokes was the biggest win for the Longhorns since the Alamo Bowl triumph over the Utah Utes to cap last season.

Texas is now riding a three-game winning streak, dating back to their triumph over first-year head coach Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears at home back on Oct. 24, by the final score of 27-16. They got the win this weekend over a tough West Virginia team and second-year head coach Neal Brown by the final score of 17-13. This was about the biggest defensive struggle for the Longhorns this season.

Fourth-year head coach Tom Herman saw the needle move in the right direction a little bit in the last couple of weeks. He needed something to give, and it finally has for the Longhorns in Big 12 play. They now head into the bye week with a record of 5-2 (4-2 Big 12), with a No. 21 ranking in this week’s AP Poll.

Here’s a look at three overreactions from the Longhorns big win over West Virginia by a narrow four point margin at home this weekend.
