1) Overreactions from Texas football’s win over WVU: Sam Ehlinger is the best game manager in the Big 12

If nothing else, what senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger is proving to the college football world this fall is how clutch he can be, despite how the rest of the game goes for him. The last three weeks were not the best for Ehlinger statistically, to say the least. In fact, he had less than 190 passing yards and less than 230 total yards this weekend.

Despite the stat lines not looking too good for Ehlinger in the last three games, the Longhorns are still getting the proper result in the win column. What’s big for Ehlinger during this three-game winning streak is how he’s managing turnovers. He has no picks over the last 10 quarters (last two and a half games). And he had no interceptions in the wins over West Virginia and Oklahoma State. Ehlinger didn’t fumble the ball once to the other team either.

In total, Ehlinger registered 184 passing yards, less than a 50 completion percentage, two passing touchdowns, no picks, 39 rushing yards, and no rushing scores, in this win over the Mountaineers. The last two weeks saw Ehlinger toss less than 190 passing yards (just 164 in the win over the Pokes on Halloweekend).

What Ehlinger is also proving this fall is that he can manage games correctly and keep his Longhorns in it no matter what. Texas is taking the idea of playing up and down to the competition to a whole new level. That could be a scary thought for the Longhorns when they take on Kansas out of the bye week. But we’ll address that when we get closer to Nov. 21.
