Texas football up one spot in Week 10 AP Poll, at No. 21

This week’s AP Poll and Coaches Poll saw the Texas football program slide up at least one spot following the Nov. 7 win over West Virginia.

A very notable win for the Texas football program this weekend kept them moving up, just slightly, in the AP Poll. And the win for Texas this weekend helped them finally breakthrough in the Coaches Poll for the first time in more than three weeks. Texas now holds the No. 24 slot in the Amway Coaches Poll, and the No. 21 slot in the AP Poll, heading out of Week 10 of the college football season.

Fourth-year head coach Tom Herman and his Longhorns moved up one spot in the AP Poll, taking the spot of the previously No. 21 ranked Boise State Broncos. The Longhorns get the spot of Boise State in the AP Poll due to the Broncos drubbing at the hands of the now No. 8 ranked BYU Cougars from this weekend, by the final score of 51-17.

Texas now ranks one spot behind the 1-0 USC Trojans in the AP Poll, and are one spot behind the 3-0 Northwestern Wildcats in the Coaches Poll. They hold a record of 5-2 (4-2 Big 12), are now have a three-game winning streak built heading into the bye week.

The win over the weekend came over second-year head coach Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers by the narrow final score of 17-13. Texas got the win over West Virginia at home on the afternoon of Nov. 7 to also stay alive in the race to land a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game in mid-December.

The other two wins that helped to assemble this three-game winning streak came over the No. 14 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Baylor Bears. Next up for the Longhorns out of the bye week will be a Nov. 21 matchup on the road against the lowly Kansas Jayhawks.

The highest ranked team out of the Big 12 in the AP Poll remains Oklahoma State. The No. 17 Iowa State Cyclones and No. 18 Oklahoma Sooners are the other two teams out of the Big 12 that are slotted higher than the Longhorns in this week’s AP Poll.
