1) Disappointing Texas football players halfway through 2020: Caden Sterns

While the overall production and efficiency from the former elite five-star safety recruit and talented junior defensive back Caden Sterns wasn’t all that bad, at least compared to Ingram and Brewer, his overall results so far this season are pretty disappointing. At least at the outset of the 2020 regular season, Sterns was looking to rebound from an up and down sophomore campaign.

Sterns was one of the best freshman defensive backs in the nation during the 2018 campaign, where he registered three tackles for loss, one sacks, a whopping four interceptions, and four pass deflections, in 13 games played. His game did start to round out a bit more so he could become more of a complete safety last season, but the pass coverage wasn’t as solid.

In the last two seasons combined now, Sterns has registered a good number more combined tackles (98) and tackles for loss (five), but he has just one interception and four pass deflections. He also still hasn’t returned any interception for a touchdown and/or forced or recovered a single fumble in his college career to date.

So far this season, Sterns has been picked on a bit in the passing game. In just 10 receptions against him in pass coverage, he’s given up more than 130 receiving yards (roughly 40 yards after the catch) and one touchdown catch. He’s registered 39 combined tackles, one tackle for loss, no sacks, one pick, and three pass deflections, through six games played this fall.
