Texas Football: 3 most shocking surprises halfway through 2020
Texas football at least entered the bye week on the right foot extending their winning streak to three games following the 17-13 triumph over West Virginia.
Heading into the 2020 season, most Texas football fans likely thought we would see a much more prominent result from fourth-year head coach Tom Herman and this team by the second bye week of the Big 12 schedule. Texas did head into the bye week on a high note, and there were a few pleasant surprises, but most fans are left with something to be desired through seven games this fall.
And while a lot of college football fans are likely just thankful that the season has lasted as long as it has in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic, it is still upsetting that the Longhorns had some of the lows that they did so far. Texas does hold a record of 5-2 (4-2 Big 12) after they knocked off second-year head coach Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers by the razor thin final score of 17-13.
The three-game winning streak that the Longhorns are currently sitting on helped them slide up to the No. 21 slot in the AP Poll and No. 24 in the Coaches Poll heading into the bye week. But Texas will need to be really good throughout their remaining three games of the regular season slate. Their last three games come against the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas State Wildcats, and Iowa State Cyclones.
The latter two of those three games won’t be easy for the Longhorns.
So far, the biggest wins of this season for the Longhorns came in the last two games, against West Virginia and the No. 14 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys. At least they’ve won three straight games since the .500 start. There are some positives to reflect on heading into the bye week.
Here’s a look into the three most shocking surprises (in a positive sense) for the Longhorns at the halfway mark of the 2020 season.
