Reese’s Senior Bowl: Sam Ehlinger and the 3 most intriguing invitees
2) Reese’s Senior Bowl intriguing invitees
As far as the defensive backs that have accepted Senior Bowl invites so far this year, by far the most interesting case is senior UCF Knights standout safety Aaron Robinson. Although Robinson has not played his entire career at safety, that’s where he might fit best in the NFL. He’s played mostly at safety since arriving at UCF, but he’s also got quite a few snaps under his belt playing at cornerback.
Few prospects in the 2021 draft class among the defensive backs are likely to bring the level of utility and overall versatility to the table as Robinson. The lengthy 6-foot-1 and 195 pound Robinson brings solid physical tools to the table and some of the more impressive one-on-one coverage skills in this class.
Robinson actually started out his collegiate career back during the 2016 campaign under head coach Nick Saban with the Alabama Crimson Tide. He wound up transferring to join UCF prior to the start of the 2017 season. Robinson had to sit out for one year and then made his Knights debut two seasons ago.
Over the course of the last year and a half (18 games played), Robinson really caught fire. Over that span of time, Robinson registered 84 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one interception, 15 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. He’s very solid in pass coverage and became a more well-rounded defensive back since landing with the Knights three years ago.
