A feel good story and great news for sophomore Texas football wide receiver Kai Money surfaced on Nov. 12 since he got put on scholarship.

Some of the best news that comes down year after year for the Texas football program is the announcement of former walk-ons getting put on scholarship. This week, fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman gave the good news to the former walk-on 6-foot and 185 pound sophomore slot wide receiver Kai Money.

This was one of the more recognizable former walk-ons that got put on scholarship in the midst of his college career that we’ve seen on the Forty Acres in recent memory. Money got on the field for a good number of snaps so far this season.

He’s also registered 65 receiving yards on eight catches (8.1 yards per catch), good for one touchdown catch. Money also had one carry for nine yards so far this season. He’s played in bits and pieces of three games for the Longhorns this fall.

The former converted dual-threat quarterback and St. Joseph Academy product Money joined the Longhorns as a preferred walk-on with their 2019 class of incoming freshmen. He is now a true sophomore in 2020.

Money’s dad was actually a quarterback with the Rice Owls in the 1970’s, so he comes from a strong football genetic line in his family.

It’s also worth noting that Money is a two-time honoree on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, from fall 2019 and spring 2020. He is a Brownsville, TX, native and is one of just a couple of former walk-ons that got any sort of relevant playing time in the receiving corps for Herman and the Longhorns in the last two years.

The news of Money getting put on scholarship officially showed to the public for the first time on the Texas Football Twitter page on the night of Nov. 12. It was met with an elated reaction from followers and fans of the Longhorns after the post emerged on social media.

Money and the Longhorns are currently in the midst of a bye week after they took down the West Virginia Mountaineers last weekend, at home by the final score of 17-13. Texas will next take on the Kansas Jayhawks on the road on Nov. 21. They will carry a record of 5-2 (4-2 Big 12) into that meeting with the Jayhawks.
