A key commit of the 2021 Texas football recruiting class, 3-Star RB Jonathon Brooks, had an enormous seven touchdown game for Hallettsville this weekend.

The impressive play of one of the most underrated commitments in the 2021 Texas football recruiting class continued this weekend. Entering the Texas High School state playoffs for his school’s class, the Texas three-star running back commit and Hallettsville senior star Jonathon Brooks had high hopes for what he could do for his team. This once severely underrated 6-foot and 185 pound in-state product went off in an early round high school state playoff game this weekend.

Hallettsville had a first round playoff matchup this weekend against Little River Academy. Brooks and his Hallettsville squad came into this first round playoff showdown with a record of 8-2 (and a perfect 5-0 in district play). Hallettsville plays in class 3A-1, specifically in Region III District 12. In their five district matchups heading into the state playoffs, Hallettsville beat their opposition by a combined 119 points.

Brooks had a lot to do with the dominance that Hallettsville put on display for much of the season. And that dominance continued into the weekend against Little River Academy. Brooks absolutely went off for 310 total yards (240 rushing and 70 receiving), five rushing touchdowns, one receiving touchdown, and even on special teams touchdown.

He combined for a whopping seven touchdowns to get Hallettsville the impressive 61-26 win over Little River Academy. And more than two-thirds of those points were accounted for by Brooks alone.

Brooks came into this game averaging a sparkling 12 yards per carry, along with just shy of 1,600 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns. He amassed that insane production in just 10 games played. He now has 35 total touchdowns (not including special teams stats) in 11 games played on the season.

A bump in the recruiting ranking of Brooks could be in his immediate future. He currently ranks as the nation’s No. 471 2021 high school prospect, No. 27 running back, and No. 72 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 25 running back and No. 69 prospect out of Texas.

Brooks committed to the Longhorns back on May 15, 2020, over offers from six other schools. Some of those other offers included the Colorado State Rams, Texas State Bobcats, Louisiana Ragin-Cajuns, and Texas Tech Red Raiders.
