3) Breakout Texas football players down the stretch

The former underrated four-star safety recruit and sophomore Chris Adimora is having a solid season that is flying under-the-radar thus far. But down the stretch, especially if injuries start stacking up around him, is where Adimora could start finding himself in the spotlight a bit more often. Having him healthy is important for the success of the Texas secondary down the stretch.

Although most Longhorns fans that know about Adimora are accustomed to him playing at safety/SPUR/nickelback, he has mostly played more as a slot cornerback this fall. At least most of his snaps came at cornerback this year, not at safety. He has mostly thrived in that transition this fall, though.

Adimora was targeted a ton so far this season. While he has allowed 37 catches on 53 attempts, good for 336 receiving yards, and two touchdown catches, he’s also made a lot of big plays in pass coverage. Adimora does have one interception on the season and three pass breakups. He’s also only missed just one in six tackle opportunities this season, which is pretty good compared to other Longhorns defensive backs.

In general this fall, Adimora registered 31 total tackles, three quarterback pressures, one quarterback hit, one interception, and three pass breakups.

Adimora is truly one of the underrated defensive backs for the Longhorns at this point of the season. If he continues to get a lot of snaps and improve his play in pass coverage down the stretch, he could be one of the better starting defensive backs heading into the 2021 offseason.
