1) Breakout Texas football players down the stretch

There’s not many Longhorns players on the defensive side of the ball so far this year that had as much pressure on them to perform, or as much total production, as this linebacker on this list of potential breakthroughs. The former highly coveted four-star safety recruit and converted junior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was the MVP for the Longhorns in the win over West Virginia, and heading into the bye week.

The 6-foot-4 and 220 pound elite athlete Overshown is continuing to improve his game as the season moves along, and we shouldn’t expect that trend to slow down anytime soon. He had the best game of his career to date in the Longhorns win over West Virginia two weeks ago, and was solid in the upset win over the Pokes on Halloweekend.

In seven games played so far this season, Overshown registered 42 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, six pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. While he does have a team-leading 17 missed tackles on the season to date, Overshown also has 20 stops, no penalties against, no receiving touchdowns against, and five quarterback pressures.

In the last dozen games played, Overshown really started to round out his game. Expect him to take his game to the next level out of the bye week. In the last dozen games over the course of the last two seasons, Overshown registered 60 combined tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions, nine pass breakups, and three forced fumbles.
