Two Texas football tight ends are not certain to be ready to go, dealing with various injuries from practice, heading into the Kansas game.

The tight end position is starting to look pretty thin for the Texas football program coming out of the bye week before they take on head coach Les Miles and the Kansas Jayhawks on the road on Nov. 21. Before hitting the road to travel to Lawrence to take on the Jayhawks, fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman seems to have a healthy team, outside of one position group.

Herman provided some key injury updates in his weekly press conference on Nov. 16 (among a number of other things he discussed), and two names stuck out that still have their status uncertain ahead of taking on the Jayhawks next weekend. Those two tight ends that could be missing for the Longhorns against the Jayhawks next weekend on the road are the breakthrough sophomore Jared Wiley and the experienced senior Cade Brewer.

Apparently both Wiley and Brewer came down with various injuries in practice during the bye week. Herman stated that Brewer is dealing with a shoulder injury, and Wiley has a chest contusion he’s trying to recover from.

As a result, Herman stated that he doesn’t know how much the Longhorns are going to run with 12 personnel against Kansas.

At least as the tight ends are concerned, the release of the Texas depth chart for the Kansas game will be highly anticipated. While there’s no guarantee as it stands now that Wiley and Brewer will be ready to go or not, they likely aren’t going to be 100 percent.

The next two names that could be up to watch if Wiley and Brewer are out are the former highly touted four-star recruit and redshirt freshman Brayden Liebrock and the redshirt sophomore wideout/tight end Malcolm Epps.

What Texas could be missing with Brewer is an experienced 6-foot-4 and 255 pound versatile tight end that’s registered 32 catches for 339 receiving yards and four touchdowns in his career to date. Meanwhile, Wiley registered eight catches for 167 receiving yards and no touchdowns in five games played in his college career to date.

Texas heads into the Kansas game with a record of 5-2 (4-2 Big 12), coming off their last second 17-13 win at home back on Nov. 7 over the West Virginia Mountaineers. Texas might have to try to build on their three-game winning streak on Nov. 21 without the help of Wiley and Brewer.
