2) Texas football flips from Baylor

By far the most surprising event that transpired on the recruiting trail for the Longhorns following National Signing Day 2020 (at least as far as that signing class is concerned) was the flipping of the four-star Pflugerville Connally cornerback prospect Jahdae Barron from Baylor to Texas. The Longhorns signed Barron well after the National Signing Day past for the 2020 recruiting cycle.

That added much needed cornerback depth when the Longhorns were having a very volatile offseason in terms of adding and losing talent at that position group. First-year defensive coordinator/safeties coach Chris Ash and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai saw the likes of Anthony Cook and Donovan Duvernay put their names in the transfer portal and Kobe Boyce retire from football completely, all in the span of six months last offseason.

What Texas got out of Barron was the nation’s No. 349 2020 high school prospect, No. 25 cornerback, and No. 51 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 had their stock high on Barron, ranking him as the nation’s No. 128 high school prospect, No. 10 cornerback, and No. 20 prospect out of Texas.

Barron didn’t have a chance to make a huge impact so far during his true freshman campaign, registering just two combined tackles and one pass deflection in bits and pieces of two games played. But his presence should be huge for the Longhorns moving forward, especially since they also lost former sophomore cornerback Kenyatta Watson II to the transfer portal. Watson II eventually took his talents back to his home state and committed to play for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
