Big 12 Basketball expansion HM’s

Dayton Flyers (Atlantic-10)

Last season could’ve been the climax of the Dayton Flyers basketball program within the last few decades. Dayton had a really solid team led by the likes of recent New York Knicks lottery pick and the Naismith and Wooden Award-winning forward Obi Toppin. This is a really solid men’s hoops program, that solely in terms of college basketball talk, would be a fantastic addition for the Big 12.

Tulsa Golden Hurricane (American Athletic Conference)

An obvious thought for an addition for the Big 12 in any sport, namely hoops and football is the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. A solid men’s basketball program and football program in recent years makes Tulsa a formidable school in the discussion of Big 12 conference expansion at any point in recent years.

Houston Cougars (American Athletic Conference)

I do love the idea of adding the Houston Cougars for all sports in the Big 12. There are some schools, like Oklahoma and Texas, that might oppose the addition of Houston if the conference did expand. But the overall fit makes a lot of sense in terms of caliber of the athletic program, size of the school, recruiting pipeline, and TV market that it brings to the table.

BYU Cougars (Independent)

The two Cougars college programs are definitely solid options for the Big 12. As far as the BYU Cougars are concerned specifically, they could be competitive in a number of sports. But basketball tends to be a reliable bet for BYU. This would be a safe addition, but likely not bring that much potential to the table in terms of men’s hoops specifically.
