Not playing in a game over the weekend didn’t stop Texas football from moving up two spots in both major polls heading into Week 13 of the season.

The Texas football program was not in action over the weekend, thanks to novel coronavirus-related issues for the side of head coach Les Miles and the Kansas Jayhawks. The originally scheduled Nov. 21 showdown on the road in Lawrence between Texas and Kansas was pushed back to Dec. 12, the weekend before the Big 12 Championship Game.

There was good news that still arrived for the Longhorns out of the weekend, though. Despite not getting to face Kansas over the weekend, Texas still moved up in the latest AP Poll and Coaches Poll. In the latest versions of both major polls, the Longhorns are up two spots in each.

In this week’s AP Poll, the Longhorns now sit at No. 20, up two spots from the previous week. Texas jumped ahead of the now No. 21 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys, after their tough loss in Bedlam on the night of Nov. 21 to the No. 14 Oklahoma Sooners. Oklahoma State now has two losses on the season, with one to each of the Red River rivals.

Moreover, the other team that the Longhorns jumped ahead of in this week’s AP Poll was the formerly No. 21 ranked Liberty Flames. Liberty was dropped from the AP Poll this week completely after they were narrowly defeated on Nov. 21 by the NC State Wolfpack, by the final score of 15-14 on a blocked field goal.

Texas, Oklahoma, and the No. 15 ranked Iowa State Cyclones are now the three Big 12 teams slotted inside the top 20 of the AP Poll. Iowa State moved up two spots in the AP Poll after demolishing the Kansas State Wildcats at home in Ames.

Texas also hopped Liberty and Oklahoma State in this week’s Coaches Poll. But they are one spot lower in the Coaches Poll than the AP Poll, at No. 21.

Moreover, next up for the Longhorns after their de facto double bye week will be Iowa State on a key Black Friday showdown at home on Nov. 27. Texas and Iowa State will be battling it out potentially to decide one of the spots in the Big 12 Championship Game.

Texas carries a record of 5-2 (4-2 Big 12), after their last game back on Nov. 7 resulted in a narrow home win over the West Virginia Mountaineers, by the final score of 17-13. They currently sit on a three-game winning streak which began back on Oct. 24 in a home win over the Baylor Bears.
