2) Texas basketball bold predictions vs. UTRGV

Matt Coleman and Greg Brown explode the scoring early

Where the Longhorns are likely to get the bulk of their scoring from this season is from the standout guard pairing of junior Courtney Ramey and senior Matt Coleman. This has to be the year where it all comes together for Ramey and Coleman, as this will be their third season playing together in the Texas backcourt.

When the Longhorns caught fire down the stretch last season, and put together a five-game winning streak ahead of the regular season finale loss to Oklahoma State, Ramey and Coleman’s play were big reasons why. Most of the solid output that the Longhorns got from Coleman last season came out of the gates, though.

Expect a similar result from Coleman this season, as he was the lone preseason All-Big 12 Team selection from this Texas team. The other player to watch that could get a quick start this season, even if he’s not in the starting five in this game, is Brown. The former elite five-star Vandegrift power forward recruit is getting all of the hype for the Longhorns this season.

It’s not out of the question that Coleman and Brown are able to combine for at least 20 points in the first half alone. This UTRGV team is going to be outmatched both in terms of size and overall athleticism at the one and the four. It’s just about finishing this game for Smart and the Longhorns, something they struggled with often last season against teams they should handily defeat.
