2) Best from 2017 Texas football recruiting class

Without a doubt, the biggest hidden gem find for Herman and the Longhorns in their 2017 recruiting class was the standout redshirt junior offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi. Not only is the 6-foot-7 and 310 pound offensive tackle the best offensive linemen in the Big 12 among NFL Draft prospects, he’s one of the best in the entire country.

It really is hard to believe how much value Texas got in their 2017 class by landing the former three-star recruit coming out of Atascocita High School in Atascocita, TX. He chose Texas over offers from just three other schools. The other three offers that Cosmi had coming out of high school were from the Houston Cougars, Memphis Tigers, and TCU Horned Frogs.

Cosmi ranked as the nation’s No. 1,123 2017 high school prospect, No. 104 offensive tackle, and No. 155 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranked him as the No. 135 offensive tackle and No. 195 prospect out of Texas. Signing Cosmi really goes to show that you shouldn’t underestimate any potent offensive line commit in any cycle.

The consistent value that Cosmi brought to the table for the Longhorns since he first took over in a starting role during the 2018 season is unparalleled. He was a Freshman All-American in 2018, and an All-Big 12 selection every year since. In more than 1,500 snaps played for Texas in his career, Cosmi has allowed just five sacks and four additional quarterback hits.
