Texas Football: 3 best players from the disappointing 2017 recruiting class
1) Best from 2017 Texas football recruiting class
The overall highest rated signee in the Longhorns 2017 recruiting class was the star senior quarterback who is about to play in his final game at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium this week Sam Ehlinger. There’s so much more good than bad that you can say about Ehlinger’s time on the Forty Acres since he first assumed the bulk of the starts at quarterback during his true freshman campaign in 2017.
Ehlinger is a former four-star dual-threat quarterback recruit hailing out of Westlake High School in Austin, TX. He chose Texas over offers from just four other schools. The other four schools that offered Ehlinger coming out of high school were the Florida State Seminoles, SMU Mustangs, Houston, and the FCS McNeese State Cowboys.
Moreover, Ehlinger ranked as the nation’s No. 119 2017 high school prospect, No. 4 dual-threat quarterback, and No. 19 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranked him as the nation’s No. 208 high school prospect, No. 4 dual-threat quarterback, and No. 8 prospect out of Texas.
Ehlinger consistently got better and more clutch for the Longhorns up to this point of his career. In four years playing for Texas so far, he’s registered 10,704 passing yards, 90 passing touchdowns, 27 interceptions, 62.4 completion percentage, 8.0 adjusted yards per passing attempt, and a 143.7 passer efficiency rating. He’s also added 1,849 career rushing yards and 32 rushing scores.
