There was a big shot that Iowa State star sophomore running back Breece Hall took at the Texas football program as a whole following the Clones win.

The way that the showdown went between No. 17 ranked Texas football and the No. 13 ranked Iowa State Cyclones on Black Friday at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium was not something that Longhorn fans were wanting. Texas had a great shot to get one major step closer to earning a berth in the Big 12 Championship Game this year.

Texas had to beat head coach Matt Campbell and his Iowa State team on Nov. 27 to be able to get one step further in that quest to making it to the Big 12 Championship Game. And that’s just something they were not able to do, largely thanks to fourth-year head coach Tom Herman seeing his team take this game down to the final seconds and fall short in the end.

This is all too common of a theme for Herman and the Longhorns this season, as they had enough talent, depth, and experience to make it to the Big 12 Championship Game this fall. Texas has made it to three overtimes in eight games played this year, and many more have come down to the last minute, or even the last second.

The wins over the Oklahoma State Cowboys, West Virginia Mountaineers, and Texas Tech Red Raiders, all came down to either the last minute, or to overtime. And now the losses to the Oklahoma Sooners, TCU Horned Frogs, and Iowa State all came down to the last second, or also to overtime.

Due to all of the struggles the Longhorns are having both on the field and on the recruiting trail of late, Iowa State star running back Breece Hall took his shot at the program following the game’s end on the afternoon of Nov. 27. Hall apparently stated following the Iowa State win: “it’s five-star culture vs. five-star players”.

It’s hard to blame Hall for this comment with the way the fortunes of the Longhorns in all phases of the program went of late. Hall torched them for the reasons that a lot of fans and media personalities around the college football landscape have so far this season.

Hall is having a monster season of his own, despite having a slow day by his usual standards against the Longhorns. In this game in particular, Hall registered 91 rushing yards on 20 carries, with one rushing touchdown. Hall is now over 1,350 total yards from scrimmage and has 17 total touchdowns in nine games played this season.

Next. 3 takeaways from the excruciating loss to Iowa State. dark

Following the 23-20 loss on Nov. 27 to Iowa State, the Longhorns move to a record of 5-3 (4-3 Big 12) on the season. It will be interesting to see how far Iowa State moves up in next week’s College Football Playoff Rankings, while we see how far Texas drops.
