The way that Texas football fell short to the No. 13 Iowa State Cyclones on their Senior Day on Nov. 27 was agonizing for the fan base yet again.

What Texas football fans were looking for on the field at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Black Friday is not the result that they got in the end. Texas came into this game against head coach Matt Campbell and the No. 13 ranked Iowa State Cyclones with a record of 5-2 (4-2 Big 12), with the No. 17 slot in the initial release of the College Football Playoff Rankings this week.

The last game that the Longhorns played in resulted in a narrow four-point victory over second-year head coach Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers at home back on Nov. 7. That game came down to the final play against West Virginia, and the same thing happened for fourth-year head coach Tom Herman and his team again on Nov. 27.

Texas brought this pivotal matchup with the Cyclones down to the last minute once again. There doesn’t seem to be any other way that the Longhorns can find a way to get through games than by taking it down to the last second. In this game in particular, it was junior kicker Cameron Dicker that once again found the game on his foot.

Expecting Dicker to save the day for the Longhorns wasn’t realistic. A sack to senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger on the final play of the game for the offense put Dicker in a spot where he had to hit a whopping 57-yard field goal attempt. Texas had to find a better way to put themselves in a position to win this game. Instead, they found a way to make it difficult for themselves and wound up falling short in the end again.

Here’s a look into three definitive takeaways from another tough last-second loss for the Longhorns to Iowa State on Nov. 27.
